in order that ... may V ...

(1)比so that ...更为正式的说法,强调目的的观念。

(2)尤其与否定的意义连用时,子句中的助动词可用shall [should]:

He left by a side door in order that no one should see him.

(他由边门离开,以免有人看到他。)

用法

in order to-V ...

(1)比单用有to的不定词或so as to-V更强调目的的观念,为正式的表达法。

(2)尤其要在in order后面表达不定词语意上的主词时,可插入for+(代)名:

She came early in order for him to read the report before the meeting.

(她早来,以便让他在会前阅读那份报告。)

command: 指具有权力或权威者正式下命令,其前提为服从

The captain commanded the men to fight.

direct: 与order或command相比,其命令的意味较弱,指给与监督指示(但期望对方服从)

instruct在指示时,比direct更注意到细节
