compel: 是强迫某人做某事或迫使其让步(其语意比force轻,比oblige重)

Nothing can compel me to do such a thing.

force: 指用武力或客观的情势迫使人背着意志做某事

Circumstances forced him to betray his friend.

oblige: 通常表示由于道德上与精神上之需要不得己去做某事

We are obliged to support him.

constrain: 指使某人受内心的驱使勉强做某事,且暗示因受限制或压迫而产生不自然的结果

He was constrained to stay at home.

impel: 是受某种欲望、动机或感情的驱策去做某事

His hunger impelled him to steal.
