doubtful: 为「不确定」之意,常含有否定的意味而用以指「有疑惑的」

His chances of success are doubtful.

dubious: 意思比doubtful更强,指对事物的价值、真实性、可能性等感到怀疑

I feel dubious about trusting him.

questionable: 指对于适当性感到怀疑,并可能暗示有充足的理由感到疑心,有时并暗示不正当

a man of questionable character

suspicious: 指形迹可疑,往往暗示邪恶或犯罪

a suspicious person

用法

doubt, doubtful之后接连接词whether, if, that的关系,要注意下列各点:

(1)肯定:

i)doubt v.之后,比较正式的用法是接whether,比较随便的一般是接if:

I doubt whether [if] she meant it that way.

(我怀疑她的意思是否那样。)

ii)doubt n., doubtful之后通常接whether:

There is a doubt [It is doubtful] whether she meant it that way.

(她的意思是否那样,不无疑问。)

(2)否定、疑问:最常接的是that,

也有接but what的:

I didn't doubt that [but that] he would be surprised.

(我不怀疑他会感到惊讶。)
